Lava Is Melting My Statcounter
My traffic quadrupled this week and, as usual, the reason is cheesecake.
Apparently, rumors are flying across the InterTubes that Taneish Simpson (aka “Lava” from the VH1 reality series For the Love of Ray J) is pregnant with the child of world record sprinter Usain Bolt.
The undying international search for photos of Ms. Simpson invariably leads them to this Running Is Funny post, where I posted the news (?) of LavaBolt’s relationship.
So, because I have no pride, scruples or standards, I’ve placed another photo of Lava to accompany this story. Here’s a shout-out to you, Croatia and Turkey!

Bolt Hits the Wall
He has a BMW M3, a cheetah and reality show girlfriend. So what do you get the runner who has everything?
Easy. A two-ton chunk of the Berlin Wall with his image on it.
“It was an honour to be presented with the two-ton wall, it touched my heart,” said Bolt.
The wall will be kept at a Jamaican military base, where it will be accessible for public viewing between Wednesdays and Sundays, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at a cost of $100 for adults and $40 for children. (That’s Jamaican dollars, or about $1.12 and 45 cents U.S.)

Usain Bolt Likes Fast Women
Eager to join the ranks of celebrity athletes who are calamities waiting to happen, world record sprinter Usain Bolt is reportedly dating Taneish Simpson, best known (?) as Lava from the VH1 reality series, For the Love of Ray J.
Bolt’s publicist refused to comment on the story, but Simpson provides periodic blurbs on her Twitter account. I wonder what he sees in her…

…perhaps it’s their mutual interest in high fashion…

…although I have to admit in this age of combining the names of celebrity couples (Brangelina, TomKat) you can’t do much better than LavaBolt.

Usain Bolt in Perspective
If you’ve buried yourself in a hole this past week, you may not know that Jamaican sprinter Usain Bolt shattered his own world records in both the 100 and 200 meter dashes. His performance prompted me to turn to the McMillan Running Calculator, which predicts finishing times in other distances based on a runner’s time in a single distance. It has its limitations, which will be obvious once I show you the results, but it’s still amazing to see how Bolt’s 19.19 in the 200 translates to other distances.
Mile – 3:16.41
5k – 11:21
10k – 23:35
Half-marathon – 52:29
Marathon – 1:50:42
Before you get too excited, know that Bolt told reporters he was tired during the 4×100 relay, and has been quoted in the past about his unwillingness to move up even to 400 meters. People have floated the idea of pitting Bolt against 5k-10k record holder Kenenisa Bekele in an 800-meter race. That would be pretty cool to watch.

What Could Go Wrong?
Having received a BMW M3 from Puma for his birthday, Usain Bolt will also receive “specialist driving lessons” at BMW’s track in Germany.
