Train for the Des Moines Marathon
Simon Sawe (pictured here) was well on his way to winning the Des Moines Marathon when he reached Mile 26 and was derailed… by a passing train. A miscommunication by railroad authorities allowed a train through the marathon course well before it was over.
“When you have to wait, you think about crazy things,” said Sawe, who indicated for a fleeting moment he thought about jumping onto the train.
Fortunately everything worked itself out. Although David Tuwei caught up to Sawe while the train was going by, he was unable to overtake him when the path cleared. Sawe won in 2:24:50.
