It’s Official: Vampire Race Set Record
In preparation for its annual Harvest Run last October, the Loveland Road Runners Club in Colorado decided to attempt a new world record for the largest gathering of people dressed as vampires. Since there was no previous record, it was merely a matter of defining the rules, following all the proper procedures, and filling out the paperwork. And now, four months later, it’s official. Guinness World Records recognizes the 354 people who participated as the largest gathering of vampires ever.
Dressing as a vampire is a little but more involved than dressing as a gorilla, Santa or a sumo wrestler. To be counted as vampires, “Women wore black and red dresses, black heels, fangs, dark eye makeup and red lipstick, while the men showed up in capes, fangs, black pants, white shirts, vests, neckties or frills.”

Can You Beat the Banana?
Runners from all over the world are seeking to qualify for the UK Beat the Banana Run in May. This photo is from a qualifying race in Hong Kong.
Banana man races have appeal on this side of the ocean as well. Jamba Juice sponsors several such runs. This one took place in Hawaii:

Rikishi Runners
There’s no way I’m going to get to the Carnival today, so please forgive me for postponing it until next Wednesday.
In the meantime, a tip of the hat to Xenia, for introducing us to something you certainly should have heard about on this website before now: The Sumo Run. Judging by this video, it is clearly the most awesome costume race ever.

Gorilla Warfare
Time for a new eyeglass prescription for one Brit:
A spokesman for Leicestershire Police said: ”We did receive a call from a member of the public on Wednesday at about 4.30pm who reported seeing a gorilla on the A6 and was concerned for their safety.”
The gorilla is pictured below. His name is Rory Coleman and he was running for a gorilla charity.

The onlooker was fortunate he/she didn’t spot this:

The Nun’s Run
You missed your big opportunity to run a 4-mile race through London dressed as a nun. Organizers raffled off tickets to the musical Sister Act, and proceeds benefited the Barnardo’s children’s charity.
Next year: A race through Cordoba dressed as the Spanish Inquisition!

The Running Food Chain

In the last Carnival of Running, I highlighted the “battle of wills” between London Telegraph sports editor David Bond and a giant pink nurse during the running of the London Marathon.
Now we have the other side of the story, though we learn that the giant pink nurse was blissfully unaware of her duel in the sun with Bond. Instead, she was deep in competitive battle with a large rhino.
“I thought there’s no way I’m going to be beaten by a rhino so that got me going again.”
No word from the rhino yet, but no doubt he was striving to stay ahead of the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man.
