Marathon Training Replaced by Thermopylae Training
I couldn’t believe I had never heard of “Spartan races,” which are long trail runs consisting of “jumping over a wall of fire, crawling under barbed wire, running through woods, swimming through mud, throwing a spear into a hay bale and getting past gladiators to get to the finish line.” They left off the part about driving Persians into the sea and dining in hell.
After a little research, I learned these races are quite common. Here’s a pretty good video of one:



Seems like kind of the next level up from a Warrior Dash type of thing. I did a “Mud Chasers” (a less well-established) brand of these obstacle run things) and I’m not sure these types of events are really for me, but parts of it looked fun.
I think I’d be in a really bad mood by the end though and not take too kindly being hit with “American Gladiator” pugil sticks.
